For those of you wondering what on earth the Nike LunarCharge is, you’ll probably have heard rumours circulating in the sneaker community following their debut at the MTV EMAs by British-rapper Tinie Tempah.

The story behind the Lunar Charge is quite remarkable, Nike often reintroduce older silhouettes from their archives as well as rework them for a modern day audience. This is no surprise as many of the brand’s archived renditions were well ahead of their time when they were first introduced.

As you can imagine, it wasn’t an easy feat, the sportswear giants have merged the Nike Lunar Charge with key elements from some of their most popular trainers.

Firstly, the shape of the shoe is heavily-inspired by their Nike Air Current, a silhouette from the ’90s that remains largely unknown, while neoprene on the upper is borrowed from another one of the brand’s running classics, the Nike Air Flow.

You’ll also notice the eye stays closely resemble the Nike Air Max 90, that’s because they’ve been taken from the shoe to allow for a more secure locked-down fit in their latest model.

Internal bootie construction derives from the Nike Air Presto and finally the laser-siped Lunarlon outsole from the Nike Lunarepic sits neatly underfoot.

This is set to be a massive release for the sportswear giants, not only is it the first time the Nike Lunar Charge has been seen by the public, it’s also the first trainer outside of its running category to feature the Lunarlon sole.

The LunarCharge release date is November 18th at 8am GMT when it will be available to buy from selected retailers.
